AA Diplomatic ID from Berlin
1941 issue for use abroad.
Besides old and important travel documents that I research and collect, I also began to add into my archive identity documents issued during the First & Second World War of significant importance. I believe such material is important as well in the research and understanding of the period and the faces behind the issuing of documents as well.
The document in the article here was issued in Berlin on September 20th, 1941, to Karl Heyer aged 39 who for the past 8 years was working in public health insurance agencies. After war broke out, he was drafted into the AA in Berlin and was appointed to “Konsulatspraktikant” status in 1941. Two years later he joined the Wehrmacht and was upgraded to Konsulatssekretär I. Klasse in October the same year. According to material from the archives Karl Heyer was probably working in Abteilung Deutschland Referat D V which dealt with issuing/denying of travel permits to occupied countries.
I have added images of this document.
