Another German Dienstpass

 

1944 late-war Service passport.

 

When it comes to collecting war related travel documents and papers, it cannot get better than finding official travel documents, and one of my favorites: a German Dienstpass.

 

Here is a lovely well-preserved sample from July 25th 1944, issued to a civilian working most likely in the transport/logistics sector. His additional documents also indicate that he is a Kaufmann (businessman) and a member of the Straßenverkehrsgenossenschaft (Road Transport Cooperative) and held a 1937 drivers’ license for all classes of motor vehicles.

 

Interesting to note that his pre-war 1934 Saar issued identity document was used to cross the border into Germany proper.

 

7 years later after his Dienstpass was issued, he obtained a West-German passport from Lübbecke, in early 1951 (the imprint at the back (I 10280 500 000 12.50) indicates that these were the first printed samples shortly before gaining independence in border- control from the Allies), bearing the extremely low SN 10.
