Fine Marshall Plan US special passport

1949 Paris stationed military attaché issue.

Not every day one can locate a World War Two related official passport, used with connection to one of the wars well-known aid programs: The Marshall Plan.

The item here is an outstanding well preserved 1949 US Special Passport, issued to USAF captain (pilot) named George Amsler. Prior to his current posting, he had already a rich career in the army, for example, August 1948 to May 1949 served as interpreter to the senior observer to Israel, French colonel, and acting as military observer to both Cairo and Jerusalem. From May 1949 to August of 1952 he served as pilot for the Ambassador-at-Large for the Marshall Plan (ECA) in Paris, W. Averell Harriman, and his duties took him to nearly all European counties, and was attached to the Office to the Air Attaché in France.

The passport has diplomatic & special visas for France, Greece, Ireland, Portugal, Spain, Turkey, occupied Germany and even Tito’s Yugoslavia.

This passport comes with his wife’s identical special passport issued to her, to accompany her husband abroad, and with their official forms and papers for applying for the entry permits & visas into Communist Yugoslavia from 1952.

Hope you enjoy the images of this historic passport.

Thank you for reading “Our Passports”.
